DCI REFERENCE DCP & KDM
In its continuing efforts to promote standardization and interoperability, Digital Cinema Initiatives, LLC (DCI) is making a reference Digital Cinema Package (DCP) and Key Delivery Message (KDM) available on a DVD-ROM disc. This reference material has been produced to comply with the current DCI Specification and Errata and the SMPTE standards referenced below. (Colloquially, it is SMPTE/DCI-compliant, not JPEG Interop-compliant.)
About the Test Material
This reference material is being provided for developers of DCI-compliant mastering and playback equipment. It was mastered using newly published standards and contains materials that may not work on some digital cinema servers. If you are an end-user or exhibitor, this reference material may be of limited value and use to you. If you have questions about using the reference material on your system (including questions about compatibility and certificate access), please consult your system integrator or server manufacturer.
About the Disc
The content is 720 frames of a test pattern and synchronized audio, with a total running time of thirty (30) seconds. The size of the DCP is approximately 500 MB.
The files are divided into directories according to file type. The root directory contains a SMPTE 429-9 Asset Map file to allow direct ingest into a compliant D-Cinema screen server. The disc contents are as follows:
| / | DCP containing reference clips in plaintext and encrypted formats. |
| /DCDM | TIFF and WAV files incorporated into the DCP. |
| /RGB | TIFF files containing original RGB images. |
| /KDM | Reference KDM file (this KDM cannot be used to unlock the encrypted DCP, see below). |
The KDM file provided on the disc is for reference only. To load and play the encrypted content on a particular screen server, a KDM must be created for that server. To create this KDM, obtain the SMPTE 430-2 certificate file corresponding to the server and paste it into the web form at http://www.cinecert.com/dci_ref_01. After you click "Submit", a KDM will be returned that will unlock the content for your screen server.
The following standards were observed when creating this reference material:
- SMPTE 428-1-2006 DCDM Image Structure
- SMPTE 428-3-2006 DCDM Audio Channel Mapping
