StEM Access Procedures

The following is the procedure for gaining access to the American Society of Cinematographers/Digital Cinema Initiatives Standard Evaluation Material (StEM). Be aware that there are different versions of the StEM (e.g., 4K, 2K, RGB and XYZ files) as listed in this document.

SMPTE is the only current DCI-authorized provider of the StEM.
- SMPTE will provide you with a copy of the DCI StEM User Agreement
(or you may download it from the DCI web site).
- Review the document and, if agreed, sign and return the document with an original signature to SMPTE.
(A faxed or email copy will suffice to begin the transaction, but the original signature agreement must be provided within five (5) business days.)
- The requesting party is entirely responsible for compensating SMPTE.
- The material was designed and is licensable for the following purposes:
- Digital cinema testing and SMPTE image/video testing
- Industry standards evaluations and demonstrations (e.g., SMPTE, ISO, etc.)
- Industry trade show demonstrations
- Educational purposes
